Petite France – A bit of France in South Korea

Petite France Korea

Petite France is located in the midst of Gapyeong Mountains and is perfect for a detour from Nami Island. Its European-esque structures and colorful yet quaint surroundings will momentarily make you forget you’re still in South Korea. Every corner in this tiny adorable village is totally instagramable.

While others take photos or buy cute mementos to remember the places they’ve been to, the person behind Petite France decided to go beyond the norms. The person must have fallen hard with France that he decided to build a replica of one of its villages.

Here you’ll find images of Little Prince scattered all over. Most of the attractions in the village are related to Antoine de Saint-Exupery’s top selling book. They even have a memorial hall dedicated to the author himself. In addition to Little Prince, the village takes pride on their vibrant cottages and antique galleries. They even have street performances like puppet shows and Orgel demonstrations to complete the French atmosphere.

Jardin de Papillions – Butterfly Garden

If you’re into K-drama, then this place should be in your must-visit list. Petite France is famous for being the shooting location of popular k-dramas, Beethoven Virus, Secret Garden and My Love from the Star to name a few. Even Running Man had filmed here. But even though you’re not, you’ll still say ‘oui’ to the striking and colorful views of Petite France.

Feb and I had an interesting stint upon locating this tiny treasure of a village. We were told that it is close-by Nami Island that’s why we’ve decided to drop by on our way back to Seoul. We got on a taxi with our dead wifi egg and an expectation of 3-5 minutes ride. 15 minutes later we’re still sitting in the taxi awaiting our arrival on our supposedly close-by destination. Our limited Korean skills were no use as the driver only answer ‘nae’ to our questions. We were low-key freaking out the entire ride. Thankfully, Petite France greeted us with gift of colors and a promise of a good time on our arrival. Lesson of the story: Wifi egg is life but a fully charged wifi egg is life-r (and so is researching the destination before travel). Lol.

Nice post and capture of the place. If I remember correctly, one of the scene of My Love from the Star was filmed here. 😉
